Total Play In Rematch of Texas Vs Baylor

Texas vs. Baylor, 9:00 ET

This would've been one hell of a college football matchup this season, right? The football season may be long over, but these two teams now matchup on the hardwood and will give us a good show tonight in a battle that should be one of the better games of the week. Neither of these teams have a shot at the Big-12 regular season championship, but they both have plenty left to play for before these March tournaments begin. Before we get there though, we need to see how tonight goes as Texas takes on Baylor.

Texas comes into the game looking for their 20th win of the season and to steal a win on the road against a ranked team. They've been fine in the conference, but I wouldn't say they are one of the better teams as they are just 8-8 in this tough conference. Being in this conference means you're going to play a tough schedule to begin with, but they've had a very tough stretch that is now actually getting a bit easier. From January 20th to February 6th, they played six games and all six were against ranked teams. In this stretch they fared pretty well, going 3-3 and having only one loss by 10 or more points. From February 10th to March 2nd they played six games, and they only had to face two ranked opponents. They lost to both of the ranked opponents but handled business against everyone else. To the Longhorns credit, they've been decent on the road. They've gone on the road and beat Oklahoma and TCU, both ranked teams and both were convincing wins. They are actually 3-3 over their past six road games as well. Lately, their team has been bolstered by forward Dylan Disu who has stepped up his scoring lately. The backcourt also offers strong scoring options - I wouldn't say they are great shooter, but they are scoring over 27 points per game combined. They will need to knock down any open shot they get tonight though as the Baylor defense can be very strong.

Baylor currently sits at 3rd within the Big 12, producing a 10-6 record in the conference and a 21-8 standing overall. They jumped out to a great start going 9-0 to start the year and there were a couple of tough games in there against Seton Hall and Florida. They dropped back-to-back games against Michigan State and Duke, before running off another five straight games. Then they lost three straight games, one was in overtime, and another was in triple overtime. One of those losses was against this Longhorns squad on the road. That game saw the Bears lose 75-73. The Longhorns had their backcourt duo score 36 points in that one and Disu also put up another 19 points. Since February started, the team has gone 7-3 and their losses came against Kansas, BYU, and Houston. All three were ranked opponents, and the only home loss was against Houston. Their most recent game was Saturday and they faced a really good Kansas team, one that was on their home floor. They beat the Jayhawks by eight points in that game. Baylor is not a deep team, and they don't have a ton of players in the rotation. Only seven guys average more than 10 minutes per game. They are balanced with their scoring though with six of their seven players averaging 10 or more points per game.

My biggest concern for Baylor in this game is that they have a letdown after the big win against Kansas. However, with them at home, and playing good basketball, I think we should see them win the game. The first matchup saw the teams play a very similar matchup with Baylor having three more turnovers being really the only difference in performance that is apparent. Texas was still able to win that game. I think this game is probably going to go under the 144 points though. I expect Baylor to be a bit tired from Saturday and so the offense might not be as sharp. I also think they try to lock in on defense in this one after good shooting performances from both teams in the first game.
