Random 49ers-Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII Props Such As Gatorade Shower, Anytime TD

I used "random" in the headline because "miscellaneous" is an annoying word and there isn't a theme for the following props. For instance, there are a couple of kicking props mentioned, two 6-to-1 "longshots", and the Gatorade color for the winning team.

Kansas City Chiefs PK Harrison Butker OVER 1.5 made FGs (-120) at DraftKings

Butker has at least two field goals in 12 of his 20 games this season. This includes 4-for-4 in the wild card game vs. the Miami Dolphins and 2-for-2 in the divisional round vs. the Buffalo Bills. Butker has made 95 percent of his field goals during the regular season and playoffs (40-for-42) and he's 12-for-12 from 40+ yards out.

And despite having the best quarterback in the NFL, the Chiefs head coach is fairly conservative. Kansas City is 18th in 4th-down attempt rate, per Nfeloapp.com. The Chiefs attempted 10 4th-downs in the regular season and three in the playoffs. Lastly, I lean 49ers-Chiefs going Under the total so I think Reid will take the points instead of gambling on 4th down.

San Francisco 49ers Shortest Punt OVER 37.5 yards (-110) at DraftKings

I've hit this prop in three consecutive Super Bowls. There have been a combined 40 punts in the last five Super Bowls. Nine of those punts have been shorter than 37 yards. That’s a 77.5 percent rate of punts traveling at least 38 yards. Niners P Mitch Wishnowsky averages 47.7 yards per punt.

My biggest concern here is the 49ers punting on Kansas City's side of the 50-yard line. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan gets knocked for being too conservative in big games. Maybe he's learned a lesson and he opts to go for it on 4th-and-5 or less on the opposite side of the 50.

Kansas City Chiefs DE George Karlaftis most sacks in the Super Bowl (+650) at FanDuel

The Chiefs are favorites to have more sacks in this game and to get the first sack in the Super Bowl. Karlaftis has sacks in two of his three playoff games this season. His 10.5 sacks in 2023 were tied with Kansas City All-Pro pass rusher Chris Jones for a team-high. Karlaftis is next to Jones, one of the biggest game-wreckers in football.

Jones only has 2.5 sacks in 18 career postseason games. But, his ability to eat up blocks gives other Kansas City edge rushers one-on-one matchups. Karlaftis lines up against 49ers RT Colton McKivitz, who ranks 47th out of 81 graded tackles, per Pro Football Focus. Finally, per ESPN, San Francisco's offensive line is 20th in pass-blocking win rate.

Shortest TD UNDER 1.5 yards (-140) at DraftKings

This is one of the most common Pros vs. Joe's prop. The public sees the Under at a plus-money payout and thinks it's "easy money". However, professional NFL bettors are willing to lay the juice on the Over because this bet has cashed in nine of the last 11 Super Bowls.

I cashed on the Under 1.5-yard touchdown scored in last year's Super Bowl when both the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles scored from the 1-yard line. Also, the Under is taking money.

The Under was at -135 early in Super Bowl week but got up to -140 Friday. Let's follow the line movement because the public rarely bets pricey props in the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling Anytime TD (+600) at BetMGM

Last year, DratKings Sportsbook listed Valdes-Scantling’s Anytime TD prop at +235. Granted, MVS had a worse season this year than last. Valdes-Scantling caught half the balls (42-21) and TDs (2-1) in 2023 compared to 2022 for less than half as many receiving yards (687-315).

However, Kansas City has a weaker WR corp and Mahomes has fewer pass-catchers he can rely on. MVS has three TD catches in his 10 career playoff games including two of six as a Chief. The implied win probability of +600 is roughly 14 percent. So we're getting a good price considering Valdes-Scantling's postseason history.

Color of First Gatorade Poured on Winning Head Coach: Orange (+300)

First of all, the right answer should be "Purple", which has +390 odds. "Riptide Rush" is purple and by far the best Gatorade flavor. That's not just my opinion, it's a fact. The Chiefs wisely drank purple-colored Gatorade during last year's Super Bowl then dumped it on coach Reid when they won.

However, Kansas City drank orange-flavored Gatorade in its Super Bowl 2019 victory over the 49ers. On top of that, Shanahan told reporters during Super Bowl LVIII media week that his favorite Gatorade is orange. Since I don't bet based on my feelings and the data points to "Orange", I'll sprinkle on the 3-to-1 payout.
