NORTHERN ILLINOIS @ KENT STATE (-3.5)
We are back with more MACtion tonight and if you decided to watch last night’s events instead of the World Series, you were given quite the show. I expect more entertaining football tonight as we see new, throwback uniforms for Kent State to start the evening off. This could be a preview of the MAC title game in another month and we could see fireworks. The Huskies are a great story this season going from 0-6 last season to unbeaten in conference play. No one runs the ball better inside that conference either. The number here feels like an expectation that they’ll be without top rusher Harrison Waylee but he’s been out the past three games anyway and they’ve been fine. The majority of the money is on Northern Illinois to cover and I lean that way too. Kent State has an explosive offense that has been charging hard at 35 points per in-conference play but I think this is where NIU takes the air out of the ball, plays to their strength of ground control, and leans in for the win and +154.
BULLS @ 76ERS (-1.5)
Chicago had a tremendous off-season with the additions of DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and yes, say his name with me, Alex Caruso. Most importantly, these pieces fit each other nicely and it shows so far. Chicago is 3-0 on the road including a 19-point comeback against Boston on Monday night. The Bulls are also pretty damn good defensively, ranking 5th in scoring defense and 9th in field goal defense percentage. They’ll need every bit of that going against the #1 offense in terms of field goal percentage and the 7th ranked scoring offense period. Chicago is paying its third consecutive game as a dog and they are perfect so far. The spread bores me when the real play and value is the straight-up win and the +110 moneyline. Bulls to win.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN @ WESTERN MICHIGAN (-10.5), TOTAL 67.5
Last night’s MACtion had a special night of chaos and all three games were within a touchdown, exactly what you’d want from these cool kids. If I had to play the spread, I’d lean Central Michigan +10.5 but it’s not a play for me. Instead I stand with the total. Both of these teams are 3-5 to the UNDER this season which bodes well for us. Even though one happened last week, only two Chippewas games have gone over 58 points in a game. Western Michigan is allowing less than 20 points per game at the homestead (19.8) and I like these trends for us. It’s a large number, so let’s take that under.
