NFL Best Bets for Monday Night Football: 49ers-Rams
It was about as bad of an 0-2-1 day can get. The Chiefs looked like the offense of old against a hapless Raiders team. The Titans somehow didn’t cover a 2.5 spread against the Trevor Siemian-led Saints. And, to cap it all off, we would’ve been profitable on the day with the Lions winning in Pittsburgh, but they instead tied. Onto Monday night’s matchup between the Rams and 49ers.
The Rams are coming off an embarrassment at the hands of the aforementioned Titans. They lost at home for the second time this season in a game they never had control over. Aside from that game, they’ve looked like a legit Super Bowl contender all season. Well, they’ve only actually beaten one other contender – the Buccaneers at home – this season. They lost to the Cardinals as well in another game that wasn’t close.
San Francisco is only a few years removed from the Super Bowl but the team doesn’t seem to have any of that motivation and success they used to. Now they are wrapped up in a “who is the quarterback of the future?” controversy. They haven’t won a home game all season and I don’t think that changes tonight. Even as a home dog against a divisional opponent, I don’t see enough positive going for the 49ers.
As I just alluded to, I’m taking the Rams -3.5 tonight at -108. The Rams offense is simply better than the 49ers defense. Another week with Von Miller at practice should help the Rams defense. And now they get another once-upon-a-time big name added to the team – Odell Beckham Jr. I’m sure the guys still has something left in the tank, and with Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods on the team, OBJ only has to be a fraction of what he once was to be effective. I don’t expect him to do much tonight, but he probably won't need to as the Rams should win this game with relative ease.
The 49ers are one of the worst teams against the run. Sean McVay is a smart guy and also an analytical guy. He knows this is a weakness and should look to exploit it. I’m playing Darrell Henderson to go over his rushing total of 67.5 at -110. I also will put a play on him to score a touchdown (probably about a half unit) at -140. He has 7 touchdowns total on the year, second-most on the team, I hate the juice but do think he will score.
