MLB Best Bets for Tuesday, July 27, 2021
It was a wild day in the Majors last night with a couple of walk-off wins, some unexpected performances, and a few upsets… but, that’s baseball and that’s why it is gambling. It is tough. Today we go again and try to turn a triple play on the diamond.
Brewers vs. Pirates
The Pirates aren’t exactly a team that people tend to fear. They are professional hitters though. Tonight, they go against the Brewers’ Brett Anderson who has been dominant against them in 33 at-bats holding them to just four total hits. For the Pirates, Tyler Anderson pitches and he has put together some very impressive outings recently. In his last nine starts, he’s only given up more than three earned runs once. That stretch includes a seven-inning, no-run appearance against the Brewers. I’m playing the 1st Half under 4.5 runs at -110. The wind does look like it may blow out today, and I think that is an advantage to the Brewers, so if you want to play them to win the first half of the game at -114, I’m cool with that.
Astros vs. Mariners
The Mariners send Chris Flexen to the mound tonight to face the division-rival Astros. Flexen has put together a very impressive campaign this year and has a 1.89 ERA at home. The bad news is, he has faced Astro hitters 27 times and given up 10 hits. Lance McCullers Jr., on the other side, has just a .141 average against him from the Mariners batters. He also has a low ERA on the road of just 2.66. The Mariners are hot, though, winning their last four games in a row. I think this game is under 4.5 runs also for the first half. As a sprinkle, I’m also taking a draw for lead after 3 innings at +285.
Marlins vs. Orioles
Sandy Alcantara pitches for the Marlins against the Orioles tonight. While the birds haven’t seen much of the fish pitcher, he is not as good of a pitcher on the road as he is at home – having almost a 4 run ERA on the road and it is over 4 when pitching at night. On the other side, Spencer Watkins pitches for the Orioles. He has had three nice outings so far. It is too early to say this is anything more than hitters taking time to adjust to his stuff, but I think we have a nice shot to grab the Orioles at plus money tonight to win the game. It isn’t overwhelming at just +122, but I like this play and think that the line is moving too much in the other direction towards the Marlins.
