MLB Best Bets for Tuesday, July 20th
Let’s see if we can get three solid plays together for the MLB on July 20, 2021. Here are your three best bets for MLB today.
Marlins vs. Nationals
Looking at this game, the starting pitching stands out as being two pitchers that are pretty opposite. One is likely going to go three or four innings as an opener and the other is going to go potentially seven giving up only a couple of runs. For the Nationals, Paolo Espino is a reliever turned starter who has had very streaky performances. The Marlins have Trevor Rogers who has been excellent this year, in fact, he hasn’t given up more than three earned runs in any of his starts this season. The line is moving in favor of the Nationals, but I’m happy to take the Marlins on the moneyline for at least the first five innings of this game at -110.
Mariners vs. Rockies
German Marquez has been better at home for the Rockies than on the road. Tonight, he gets to face a Mariners team that strikes out more than all but five teams in baseball. They average 9.53 strikeouts per game and Marquez has thrown about six strikeouts per game at home. In his last two games, he’s had nine and 11 K’s respectively. I’m playing him to get 7+ strikeouts and 8+ today at +195 and +420. I think that he gets to 8, but I’m comfortable risking both.
Cubs vs. Cardinals
Trevor Williams has been hit hard by the Cardinals in his experiences against them. He’s given up seven home runs in the 41 hits against him. Another 10 of those hits have gone for doubles, so when they are making contact against him, it has been good contact. After a strong May, he returned to give up seven runs in one appearance against the Phillies. Combine all of that with an 8.09 ERA on the road and I have little to no faith that Williams can hold down the Cardinals today. Johan Oviedo for the Cardinals has a lot less experience against the Cubs and has been more than willing to give up runs against other clubs. My play today is the Cubs/Cards over 4.5 runs through the first five innings of the game at -124.
