MLB Best Bets for Tuesday, August 3, 2021
Ya win some and ya lose some. That basically sums up our night last night. We won two of our three bets, and our odds boost parlay crashed and burned almost immediately. Oh well, still a profitable night, so no complaints there. Let’s get it.
Indians vs. Blue Jays
Zach Plesac goes for the Indians against the Blue Jays lineup. Plesac has never faced the Blue Jays before and is very successful the first time through a lineup. The second time through, lineups are hitting almost 100 points higher against him. For the Blue Jays, Hyun Jin Ryu has had three nice starts in his last four outings. Indians hitters have had success against him, batting .312. He has been very consistent overall, both home and away. Once Ryu settles in, he is significantly more effective, and I believe he may struggle with his return to the Canadian home of the Blue Jays. I’m playing the Indians through three innings at +210 as I think they score first but probably lose the game.
Padres vs. Athletics
A battle of the southpaws tonight in Oakland. The underperforming Blake Snell takes on Sean Manaea. Snell has an alarming 8.02 ERA on the road this season, and that isn’t inflated just from one or two games. He has had multiple games this season where he has been hammered. Snell was also rocked last outing at home by the Athletics. Manaea has also been worse at home, but not nearly as drastic with his splits – he only has a 3.34 ERA at home. He has been very good against Padres hitters, though, holding them to just a .158 batting average. The A’s are also playing very well right now, so I’m playing them on the runline at +125.
Giants vs. Diamondbacks
At the beginning of the season, I would’ve expected the Giants to be down at the bottom of the division with the Diamondbacks. Now we are over halfway through the season, and they are nearly 30 games over .500 and in first place in their division. Tonight, Johnny Cueto pitches against a Diamondbacks team that has had his number this season. In two starts, Cueto has given up nine earned runs in ten innings. For the Diamondbacks, Madison Bumgarner has held his old teammates to just a .172 batting average. At home, he has given up 20 earned runs in just over 30 innings. I think that the Diamondbacks can hold the Giants off for the first half of this game (I don’t feel as confident in the full game), and I’ll play it at +144.
