MLB Best Bets for Monday, June 7th
There is a short slate in the MLB tonight, with only three games on the schedule. I’ve found a couple of betting angles that I like for them though and want to share them with the masses!
Cubs vs. Padres - 10 p.m. ET
The Cubs faced Ryan Weathers just six days ago and scored four runs off of him in five innings. All of their runs came from the long ball, which is a little easier at Wrigley than at the Padres home park of PETCO Park. Weathers has a pretty limited sample size, but is sporting a 1.93 ERA at home so far. He has 18 innings pitched, but has allowed 21 hits and walks combined in those home appearances. On the Cubs' side, we have Patrick Wisdom hitting home runs every day (okay, not every day, but he has seven home runs in 13 games). They have Adbert Alzolay, who has been sneaky good, throwing tonight. He has given up runs in every start, but hasn’t given up more than three runs in any of his last nine starts. The wind is blowing out today, and the total has already risen from 7.5 to 8 runs. My play is to take the over (-106).
Royals vs. Angels - 9:38 p.m. ET
Dylan Bundy has um… not been good. He is the bearer of an 0-6 record with a 6.49 ERA. His ERA is actually higher at home too. Luckily, the Royals are not a great team and have a cumulative batting average of .193 against Bundy. Maybe this is the game the Angels need to turn his year around. Jackson Kowar, on the other hand, is making his Major League debut. His minor league stats this year are rather eye-popping. 5-0 record with 31.2 innings pitched and a 0.85 ERA with 41 strikeouts. One of the spots he has struggled a bit though is control – he has issued 10 walks on the year. I am going to back the rookie, Kowar, whom the Angels probably haven’t seen much video on. I’ll take the Royals for the first five innings at +124. In another game with the wind blowing out, I’m also taking the over 9 runs at -102.
