As we head into the weekend, let’s try and make some beer money with some MLB plays. 

Giants vs. Nationals

This play was shared yesterday, but I’m going to keep with it and go with the same thinking as before. Do I like betting against Scherzer? No. But, as I stated yesterday, the best team in the MLB in terms of profitability in the first five innings is the San Francisco Giants. The worst team in the majors in the first five innings? The Nationals. Those two play each other. At +146 (it was better at +170ish yesterday) I’ll still take a shot. 

Parlay

I don’t want to overcomplicate things here, so I’ll get right to my point: the White Sox and Rays are good teams, the Orioles and Tigers are bad. The pitchers, Giolito and Yarbrough are also very good and can dominate bad teams. I’m taking both of them on the moneyline in a parlay that pays +152. Very rarely do I like baseball parlays, because any team can beat any team any day, but this is worth a shot. 

Long shot

Clayton Kershaw will go down as one of the best pitchers in history, or at the very least, in Dodgers history. But he’s been hittable this year. The Rangers aren’t a team that will strike fear into most opposing teams, and they have only three players who’ve even had an at-bat against Kershaw. I personally think this line is just too high. FanDuel is offering almost 3:1 for betting on the Rangers tonight. Perhaps it is because Rangers starter Mike Foltynewicz has been bad this year, and because the Dodgers hitters are batting .415 off of him in 51 at-bats. Either way, I’m putting a bit on the Rangers to win this game. The moneyline, in my opinion, should be closer to +235 which gives some value. 

Blue Jays vs. Red Sox

In the Blue Jays vs Red Sox matchup, I am going to take the over. Ross Stripling has given up eight home runs in eight starts this year and has a 9.49 ERA at night this season. Plus, the wind is blowing out to left field tonight in Boston. In one other matchup against the Red Sox this year, he gave up three home runs and six total runs in just 3.2 innings. Garrett Richards has been solid, but not great for the Red Sox. In four home starts, he has a 6.38 ERA. He’s also given up six runs to Toronto in 11.1 innings over two starts. I’ll take the over 9.5.
