Giants And Rockies Can Put Crooked Numbers On Scoreboard

"Scared money don't make money." I really need to remember that line sometimes. You see, yesterday, I put out two baseball plays and they went 1-1. Fine, not terrible, but not great, obviously. The problem is that I saw the line in the Reds and Dodgers game and said I wouldn't recommend putting the Dodgers in a parlay or anything. Too often the team that is a heavy favorite in baseball ends up losing. I said the Reds have either won or covered the run line in a bunch of games lately. Did I play the Reds or even the run line? Nope. I'm not sure if it was scared or what, but the value was there on the Reds and I passed it up. I'm hopeful I won't make a similar mistake today as the Rockies take on the Giants.
The Colorado Rockies before about a week ago were a garbage team that is really only known for having a great stadium. However, over recent years, it doesn't seem like Coors Field is quite the launch pad it once was. It doesn't matter if it is or isn't for today's game as it is a road contest for the Rockies. The problem is that they are very bad on the road, and have been for years. This season, they are just 6-16, 10 games under .500 in comparison to three games under at home. The thing is they've won three straight on the road and have won seven in a row. So, maybe they are just hot, or maybe they have turned a corner. I think it is just an anomaly, personally. The Rockies could be getting back three players today with their catcher, Elias Diaz, shortstop Greg Jones, and always-injured Kris Bryant. The Rockies offense really isn't the problem though as they are hitting almost .250 for the season. The pitching staff is the major issue with the team. They have a 5.03 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. If you're allowing three runners every two innings that's going to be around a dozen baserunners a game. It is hard to win games like that. Tonight, they send out Ryan Feltner to the hill to take the series opener from the Giants. Feltner hasn't been good on the road. In five road starts, he has a 5.90 ERA and has allowed opponents to hit .297 off of him. He has allowed at least five runs in three of his five road starts this season. He hasn't faced a ton of Giant hitters, but has held them to just two hits in 16 at-bats.
The Giants are a somewhat mediocre team overall, with a 20-25 record. If you've followed them the past year or so, they go on stretches of winning a bunch of games and then lose a bunch of games. Clearly, they have lost more than they've won this season. One thing about the Giants is that they have found ways to win games over the year with anyone on the roster. The team really doesn't have a superstar (maybe the pitching staff could be considered), but the rest of the lineup doesn't have a bunch of guys you'd typically fear. The team only has a .238 batting average for the season and has scored just 169 runs. That comes out to fewer than four runs per game, still they have found a way to win roughly half of their contests. Their pitching staff hasn't been great, but has been better than the Rockies. Collectively, the team has a 4.56 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Opponents are hitting .262 against the staff as well. Kyle Harrison is taking the ball for the Giants. He has been a strong starter for them. Harrison has a 3.42 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP. He has been about the same on the road as he has at home, but he does usually perform worse at home than on the road. He faced the Rockies on May 7th, and he allowed four hits and no runs over seven innings. Overall Rockies hitters have struggled against him with just eight hits over 42 at-bats.
I think this game probably ends up with an over for the full game since it is listed at 7.5. I get that the teams aren't offensively gifted, but both pitchers are likely to allow some runs. I don't think Harrison will be able to turn in the same type of performance. The Rockies should get to him. I won't be scared, I think the Giants win this game by more than two runs and stop this Rockies streak. I also think we get over 7.5. I'll split a unit on the plays.
