The much-debated College Football Playoff is almost here. We’ve seen Alabama seemingly sneak into the final four after an inconsistent season (at least by their standards) and ultimately, they are now the favorites again. Let’s take a look at both games and see what we can expect.

Georgia vs. Michigan

The top team in the country for the majority of the year, Georgia, is facing the best Michigan team we’ve seen in years. Georgia is a solid team and we’ve heard all year about their prowess on defense. They ended the season with only the one loss to Alabama and over the year they allowed just 9.5 points per game this year. One thing to consider, though, is that Michigan was really strong defensively too. They allowed just 16.5 points per game. On the surface, you’d think this should be a low-scoring game. I’m not sure about that though, I could really see this going either way. Both offenses have elite players and could make this a pretty high-scoring game. Michigan can throw it, which is the way Alabama beat Georgia, but the Wolverines are also reliant on the run game. That is what concerns me so I’m going to buy down to -7 on this game (currently at -7.5). I’d rather assure myself of a push than a loss in the event that the game stays close.  Neither team has been in many close games, so now is the time for us to see what happens when the pressure gets up.

Cincinnati vs. Alabama

Most people are counting the Bearcats out of this game. I have a hard time believing that they are going to win the game, and giving Nick Saban this much time to prepare makes it even less likely. Can they cover the 13.5 spread on the game? I think it is possible, but probably not likely. Alabama will be prepared for likely everything that Desmond Ridder and the Cincinnati offense will throw at them. Defensively, Alabama already showed that they can beat the best defense in college football with relative ease. I don’t expect them to have any problems with Cincinnati’s defense, even though they shouldn’t be taken lightly. I also think there is more pressure on Cincy in this one than Alabama. Cincinnati wants to show that they deserve to be here. I have to take Alabama to cover the spread but I could also see this game going over the 57.5 point total.
