Baker Mayfield Joins Stefanski On COVID List

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski have tested positive for COVID-19.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Mayfield said he feels "completely normal,” but it puts QB Case Keenum in the starting role for Saturday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Nick Mullens will be his backup.

The team said Stefanski, who has self-isolated and is feeling fine, will continue his coaching duties virtually as the Browns prepare for the game.

"If Stefanski is unable to produce two negative tests before Saturday, special teams coordinator Mike Priefer will serve as the acting head coach and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt will serve as the offensive play-caller," ClevelandBrowns.com's Andrew Gribble writes.

The Browns currently have a combined 12 players on reserve/COVID-19 lists, including a number of key starters.

The team placed eight players on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, including wide receiver Jarvis Landry, offensive guard Wyatt Teller, tight end Austin Hooper and left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr.

"We have seen through last season and I have seen it this year, guys step up," Stefanski said. "That is what the NFL is about. You are without guys due to injury or otherwise, and guys step up. That is why we have a bunch of players on this team that we trust."

The NFL now has seven teams in enhanced COVID protocols: the Browns, the Chicago Bears, the Atlanta Falcons, the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Rams, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Washington Football Team.
