Baker Mayfield Cleared To Play Sunday Vs Steelers

Videos by OutKick

The Browns are getting their starting signal caller back just in time for a divisional matchup with rival Pittsburgh. Despite a shoulder that likely needs more work than a Kardashian photo, Baker Mayfield’s been given the green light.

Tests confirm that Mayfield has a shoulder fracture and torn left labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Mayfield received medical clearance Thursday night and is expected to start. Rapoport went on to say that the decision to start Mayfield was made once it had been determined that he had full range of motion in his shoulder and that his strength had returned.

He was initially injured in Week 2 when he attempted to make a tackle following an interception. Then, four weeks later in a loss to Arizona, Mayfield’s shoulder met J.J. Watt, which led to more damage.

Mayfield had to miss the home win versus Denver last week, but prior to that, Mayfield had started 51 consecutive games dating back to his 2018 rookie season. In his six starts this season, Mayfield has completed 67% of his passes with six touchdowns and three picks. He’s also run for a score.

The Browns are expected to get Nick Chubb back in the lineup as well. Chubb has missed the two previous games with his own ailment. They’ll likely need strong performances from both guys in order to fend off the Steelers, who have been a constant thorn in the Browns’ side for more than two decades.

FanDuel Sportsbook has a healthier Baker and the Browns listed as 3.5 point home favorites for Sunday’s AFC North tilt.
