Arkansas Screwed By Terrible Call and Replay Review in Auburn Loss [UPDATE]

Arkansas just got cost a win in one of the most egregious officiating errors you'll ever see.

Auburn quarterback Bo Nix sought to spike the ball and stop the clock for a field goal try. He fumbled the snap, recovered, and then spiked it. The officials called Nix for intentional grounding. Upon further review, it was clear and obvious that Nix threw the ball backwards:

This video cuts out before you can see it, but the ball was recovered by Arkansas. The whistle was blowing and you could make a case that made Auburn stop, but in my opinion it should have been Razorbacks ball and game over.

Even if you were not to say there was a clear recovery (which, again, there was), Auburn should have had to attempt their field goal a number of yards further back. Anders Carlson, who had just missed a field goal on the previous possession, barely snuck this one through the uprights for 39 yards.

Update: Terry McAulay, the former NFL referee and current NBC Sports officiating expert, agrees that Arkansas got hosed:
