Week Six SEC Players Of The Week Announced
Last weekend was wild in the SEC. Texas A&M upset Alabama, Kentucky took care of LSU, Ole Miss won a close game against Arkansas, and Tennessee took care of South Carolina. Now, the SEC has released their players of the week honors for Week Six of the 2021 season.
On offense, Zach Calzada was named offensive player of the week. The QB was 21-31 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. On the game winning drive, Calzada led the Aggies down the field for 54 yards, setting up the 28-yard field goal to defeat the Tide.
Offensive Line
Ole Miss OL Nick Broeker helped the Wildcats rush for 324 yards against the Arkansas defense. He also graded out at 90%, according to the SEC.
Also on the offensive line, OG Eli Cox of Kentucky graded out at 91% in the 42-21 win over LSU. Cox helped Kentucky rush for 330 yards rushing against a tough Tigers defensive front. He led the offensive line with seven knockdown blocks.
Defensive line
Texas A&M DL Tyree Johnson had two sacks against Alabama, along with four stops on the day. Johnson helped the group record four total sacks.
Kentucky DL Octavious Oxendine had three tackles, including the first two sacks of his career. He had a seven-yard and a nine-yard sack against LSU.
Defensive Player
Tennessee DB Brandon Turnage made his first start on Saturday. He finished the game with a career-best 14 tackles and two tackles for loss. He led the Vols at the STAR position, after Theo Jackson did not make the start.
Special Teams
Texas A&M KR Devon Achane had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving the Aggies a 31-17 lead in the third quarter.
Freshman
Georgia WR Ladd McConkey had a career high 135 yards receiving and a touchdown on five receptions. The Dawgs beat Auburn 34-10.
