Texas School Shooter Shot Someone Four Times, Then Got Out on $75k Bond
On Wednesday, Timothy Simpkins, 18, shot Zacchaeus Selby, 15, four times with a .45-caliber handgun at Timberview High School in Arlington, TX. Though Selby still fights for his life in an induced coma, Arlington police have released Simpkins from custody Thursday after he posted a $75,000 bond.
Simpkins shot Selby in his arm, leg, chest, and stomach. He also wounded a school teacher, who tried to break up their fight, and a bullet grazed another student. Following a short manhunt, Simpkins turned himself in.
So Simpkins got out on bond for shooting someone four times, running from police, and injuring two other people, huh? Meanwhile, it's unclear whether Selby will make it out of the ICU alive.
Simpkins' family, however, has said that their son is the victim, alleging that Selby bullied him. The school has not addressed that claim, though it has acknowledged that Simpkins and Selby had been feuding for some time.
Selby's grandmother, Kathy, says Simpkins' family is attempting to excuse his behavior.
"They're making Simpkins out to be the victim. My grandson is in the ICU – shot four times," Kathy Selby, Zaccheaus Selby's grandmother, told KXAS-TV. "My grandson is the victim."
Selby's family started a GoFundMe to raise money for medical expenses and legal fees, with the following explanation:
"Zacchaeus is a bright young and respectful individual who lit up a room every time with his presence."
Matt Walsh points out how this school shooting differs slightly from most shootings:
Hard to argue.
