NFL Week 5: Stay Away From Mahomes and Brady

Let’s look at the best bets of the week, via FanDuel:

Bucs at Bears (+3.5)

Injuries.

On offense, Tampa Bay is as beat up as any team in the NFL.

Tuesday, all of Tom Brady's top targets — Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Scotty Miller — missed practice. OJ Howard is out for the season, and running back Leonard Fournette may miss another game.

Rob Gronkowski is healthy but has been a non-factor.

On a short week, Chicago's defense, playing at home, will give the Bucs' offense plenty of problems. As long as Nick Foles and company don't look half as pathetic as they did against the Colts, they'll cover. They may even win.

Bears, 24-23.

Raiders (+13.5) at Chiefs

I'm as high on Patrick Mahomes as anybody, but the Chiefs looked beatable on Monday.

If Cam Newton plays, or the refs don't inexplicably blow a fumble dead, Kansas City loses that game.

Twice in three weeks, against the Chargers and Patriots, the Chiefs have shown concerning weaknesses. Las Vegas matches up well with its division-rivals.

In Week 2, Los Angeles ran for 183 yards on KC, and Vegas' run game is one of the league's best.

13.5 is too much to bet against a desperate Raiders team that scores fast.

I'm doing it again: Chiefs lose on Sunday. Raiders cover easily.

Raiders, 27-20.

Chargers (+8.5) at Saints

Another line too large.

Justin Herbert went toe-to-toe with Mahomes and Brady. Monday night, he does the same against Drew Brees.

Though the Chargers are banged up, they play hard on defense and force key stops.

New Orleans is not the team of the past few seasons. Don't let a victory over Detroit fool you. They're still the Lions.

Monday Night Football gets another good matchup this week. What's more, it will actually be a good game as well.
