Memphis OC Tries to Recruit Jalen Hurd, Calls UT Frat Guy Instead
Jalen Hurd is leaving Tennessee midway through the 2016 football season and word is he's interested in transferring to a new school.
With that in mind, according to a tipster who provided the voicemail Memphis's offensive coordinator Chip Long decided to do his due diligence and call Jalen Hurd's cell phone and leave him a message pledging just how much Memphis would like to bring Hurd to the Tiger program. They'd be willing to even change the entire offense to fit his skill set.
That's all well and good.
Except, there was just one small problem.
Instead of calling Jalen Hurd, the Memphis offensive coordinator misdialed and left a message with a current Tennessee frat guy.
This is why it's always fun to check Outkick's email.
Quoth the UT frat guy, Davis Dyer, via email:
"Last night on November 1st I received a missed call and voicemail from the OC at Memphis. He thought I was Jalen Hurd and gave a whole sales pitch to come to Memphis.
Honestly thought it was complete joke at first, but then I searched videos of this dude and every video I've seen sounds exactly like the voicemail.
I'm from Nashville and got one of my friends to send me Jalen's number. Ours are very similar."
Outkick reached out to Memphis and Tiger football officials claim the audio isn't real. Here's audio of Chip, you can decide whether you think it's him.
Plus, who is playing a prank and pretending to be the offensive coordinator at Memphis? No one even knows who this dude is.
It's not like someone pretended to be Nick Saban.
Either way, we report, you decide. The audio is linked above and Memphis claims it isn't really Long. Is it? Listen and decide for yourselves.
You've already earned your stripes, Jalen.
Memphis will make the offense work for you. The decision is easy.
