Kentucky vs. Louisville Matchup Has Been Postponed, Due To Covid Problems With Cardinals
It was announced on Monday morning that the upcoming Kentucky versus Louisville basketball game scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed. The Wildcats are coming off a trip to Las Vegas, where they were supposed to play Ohio State. But due to Covid problems within the Buckeyes program, they did not participate, so North Carolina ended up playing Kentucky.
Well, after returning from Vegas, Kentucky has now been informed that its game with Louisville is now having to be replaced. The school released a statement on social media, informing fans of the news.
We saw the Memphis vs.Tennessee game get canceled over the weekend, due to Memphis having a few positive tests, leading to contract tracing of players that weren't vaccinated. That game will now be made up, as the Vols simply don't have room on their schedule, with SEC play about to begin.
As for Kentucky and Louisville, the Wildcats did put out this statement in their release.
"UK Athletics is working to find a replacement game for either Wednesday or Thursday in Rupp Arena. Officials from Kentucky and Louisville will monitor opportunities in which the teams can reschedule the annual rivalry game."
So, for the fans that enjoy this rivalry, there might still be an opportunity to get this game in, as it sounds like administrators are trying.
We will see how the next few weeks go for College Basketball, but I'd expect more situations like the ones arising.
