Herschel Walker Rushes To Big Lead In Georgia Senate Primary Poll

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL star Herschel Walker is running away at the polls.

According to Max Greenwood of The Hill, Walker has "a wide, early lead in the GOP primary to take on Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in Georgia next year, according to a poll that shows him dominating the rest of the field by a nearly 70-point margin."

Per the poll, conducted by the Trafalgar Group in Atlanta, Walker has the support of 75.7 percent of the likely Georgia Republican primary voters. The next-closest GOP opponent is state ag commissioner Gary Black, is who at a measly 6.3 percent.

"The poll suggests that Walker, a former running back at the University of Georgia who had a lengthy career in the NFL and has been touted by former President Trump, is by and large the favorite to challenge Warnock next year in one of the closest-watched and most competitive Senate races of the 2022 midterm cycle," Greenwood wrote.

Walker recently sat down with OutKick founder Clay Travis to discuss a number of topics, including his decision to run.

“Right now, I see so many things I disagree with,” Walker said. “So I’m going to fight.”

Many consider Walker to be the greatest college football player ever from his time as a running back at Georgia. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1980 before moving onto the professional ranks and the USFL’s New Jersey Generals, owned by Trump.

A native of Augusta, Ga., Walker’s best NFL seasons came with the Dallas Cowboys (1986-89) and Minnesota Vikings (1989-91). He later spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles (1992-94) and New York Giants (1995), before retiring with the Cowboys in 1997.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999, and his number 34 has been retired at Georgia.
