GOP Newcomer Edward Durr Upsets Democrat Steve Sweeney In New Jersey Senate Election

New Jersey has spoken. And that means that a truck driver will soon be in the the state's senate.

Per The Associated Press, Republican Edward Durr has defeated Democrat Steve Sweeney in New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District. Sweeney's time as state Senate president comes to an end after nearly 11 years in the position. He goes down to Durr, who spent just $153 on his campaign.

Durr's win is a major upset, as Sweeney is the longest-serving legislative leader in New Jersey history. Sweeney's ultra-progressive agenda could not overcome Durr, who has suddenly found himself in a prominent seat in office.

Durr, 58, is a staunch conservative. He campaigned on such values as protecting the Second Amendment and reducing property taxes. That Democrats let a truck driver who doesn't consider himself a politician win shows how out of touch the party is.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart on Wednesday, Durr explained his campaign strategy to ensure that he could defeat Sweeney.

“I walked three to four hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, I walked six to eight hours," Durr said. "We usually had half a dozen volunteers. One time we went out and we had twelve to thirteen go out with us.

“Trust me, plenty days I did not feel like walking. It was too hot, my ankles and my feet hurt — I’m not a young man anymore, and I have gout, and plantar fasciitis — it was a hard thing. But it was well worth it, because it allowed me the opportunity to talk to every person I could possibly talk to, and understand what they were feeling, and get the pulse.”
