Florida Voters Favor DeSantis, Trump Over Biden In New Poll
In a potential showdown between President Joe Biden and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election, DeSantis appears to have the early advantage in a key swing state.
In a poll released by Suffolk University/USA Today Network Tuesday, DeSantis leads Biden 52%-44% in the state of Florida. Former President Donald Trump also leads Biden 47%-44%, should he run for office once again in 2024.
As David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said, the numbers are troubling for the current president.
“That’s something that’s got to give President Biden pause and other potential Democratic challengers pause,” he said.
Biden told reporters on Jan. 19 that he was not bothered by sagging numbers.
“I don’t believe the polls,” Biden said.
A majority of Florida voters don't appear to be satisfied with Biden, with just 39% approving of his presidency. Voters cited Biden's handling of the economy as the biggest reason for his disapproval rate. In addition, 58% of voters believe the country is headed down the wrong path.
Before even entertaining a possible run at the presidency, DeSantis' first order of business will be retaining his place as governor. The top two Democrats vying to replace him are Congressman and former Gov. Charlie Crist and Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried.
DeSantis has a 49%-43% lead over Crist. His lead over Fried is even wider, with DeSantis holding a 51%-40% advantage.
