Fish & Cheese On Menu For Week 8 NFL Upset Alert

We simply love when a plan comes together as it did last week when we picked the Titans and Texans to at least cover the number if not win outright. Well, we’re happy to tell you that both covered and Houston won outright! This week we have another winning pair so for the luvva gawd, read on!

Dolphins at Texans – Thursday, 8:20 PM ET

In the interest of full disclosure (as if we’re submitting a sworn deposition into evidence – how full of ourselves are we?!) there aren’t many underdogs that are tickling our fancy this week. Yes, sounds like we’re going to be backing the chalk in Week 8 like all the other squares, but we found one dog we absolutely love and one that qualifies as mild infatuation. The Dolphins qualify as the latter, but with a few cocktails and a little Norah Jones background music we could learn to love them too.

OK, so the Dolphins will be without their top two WR targets in Albert Wilson and Kenny Stills when they meet the Texans on Thursday night. But, if there is one silver lining it’s that Brock Osweiler played pretty well against the Lions last week in defeat. The former member of the Houston Texans (that’s just another reason to back Miami: revenge for dumping him, knows the Texans’ playbook; and both probably overrated factors in choosing the Dolphins) completed 22 of 31 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins’ 32-21 loss to Detroit. Osweiler played even better the week before in a win over Chicago.

The bottom line here is that neither team scores a whole lot and the Dolphins have the horses up front to make life miserable for Deshaun Watson. I can see this as a low-scoring affair, and if the oddsmakers want to give us north of a touchdown in a game between two sloppy offenses then we’ll take it. As we check over to Sportsbook Review, a site that lists all the odds on all major events from the best online sportsbooks we see that most of the majors are dealing Miami at +7 to +7 ½ and we all know how important that hook can be. Packers at Rams – Sunday, 4:25 PM ET

If fish was the appetizer then cheese is the entrée. It would have been nice if we actually liked the Dolphins more so that opening sentence could make a little more sense, because after all who enjoys a gorgeous Chilean sea bass and then salivates at the thought of a cheese plate? But let’s cut to the chase. Can you believe that Aaron “Bleepin’” Rodgers is getting close to 10 points? Is this a sign of the Apocalypse or are the oddsmakers just doing the right thing and bracing for an avalanche of square money on the Rams?

You see the public is down on the Packers because they struggled to a 33-30 win over the lowly Niners two weeks ago but now they’re coming off of their bye week and have oodles of time to prep for Jared and the Juggernauts. Oh, and if you don’t think the Packers play well off of their bye week under head coach Mike McCarthy then you might want to know that they have covered the number in nine of those 11 circumstances. In addition, Rodgers will have a healthy receiving corps intact, while Jared Goff may be missing one of his chief targets in Cooper Kupp who missed last week with an MCL sprain.

This all adds up to crazy value on the Packers. Rodgers has never been this big an underdog in his career and on the two occasions in which the oddsmakers disrespected him by tagging him as a seven-point dog or more, of course he covered in both and demanded a full-blown apology. We added that last part. But the only thing you’ll need to add is all that money coming your way after you cash with a bet on the boys from the Bay.
