Dr. David Chao -- ProFootballDoc -- Joins Clay as Latest Addition to Outkick

Thursday morning Clay made the announcement on Fox Sports Radio that Dr. David Chao -- known digitally as ProFootballDoc -- is joining Outkick as an expert contributor.

Dr. Chao then joined Clay to discuss the move as well as his first two pieces for Outkick, one centering on the NFL and the fear of CoronaVirus; the other on Cam Newton and his health entering this season.

Chao spent 17 seasons as the team doctor for the San Diego Chargers (1997-2013) and is part of the medical team at OASIS in San Diego where he treats and specializes in orthopedic sports injuries, working with high-profile professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

In addition to the Chargers, he had previously served professional teams in Minnesota with the Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves as well as in Chicago, working with the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls.

Dr. Chao has been a medical consultant for the WWE and a host physician for the USA Olympic Committee. His credentials also include work as the Chief Medical Officer for ESPN’s X Games at over two dozen summer and winter games and has spent over a decade as Team Physician for the Olympic and USA Sevens Rugby Team.

Dr. Chao attended Harvard University and then received his medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine at Chicago. He is known for providing cutting-edge orthopedic care, especially in the sports medicine arena, has lectured nationally and holds patents on innovative orthopedic products.

Since leaving the Chargers, Chao has become an internet sensation akin to Mike Pereira -- the former VP of officiating for the NFL, who now serves as a rules analyst for FOX Sports.

His Twitter account has grown organically to over 160K followers, ranging from prominent writers looking to be first to report a theoretical time frame of missed games to a loyal army of fans that are interested in his analysis as they apply to fantasy sports and gaming. In 2019, he founded the revolutionary injury analytics website www.profootballdoc.com.

Fans of Outkick can expect his insights and analysis over the course of the year and not just specific to football.
