An Extension For Browns QB Mayfield May Happen Soon

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has seen his share of big plays in his first three seasons in the NFL, but the biggest play about Mayfield's future still remains in limbo.

The quarterback, picked first overall by Cleveland in the 2018 NFL Draft, has a 5th year extension that the team has yet to pick up, but that could be a moot point if the quarterback gets a new deal.

Mayfield isn't the only young QB star up for an extension, as both Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are also ready to cash in.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke about each of their contract situations.

“So some people around the league believe could get done the soonest because Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are mostly top-five-to-seven quarterbacks," Fowler said,

"They’re considered high-end guys, where Baker is still working his way into that. Maybe a bit of a different market could be easier to get done."

Giving Mayfield an extension could lead to an interesting situation with another player on the roster, running back Nick Chubb.

The Browns' leading rusher ran for 1,067 yards and 12 scores last season. In his three seasons in the league, he's rushed for 3,557 yards and 28 touchdowns. As of now, Chubb will make a little under $1.9 million dollars in the final season of his rookie contract.
