Alex Ovechkin One Of Four Washington Capitals Added To NHL's COVID-19 List

The Washington Capitals were dealt a huge blow on Wednesday as the team placed four players on the NHL's COVID-19 list.

Star player Alex Ovechkin was one of the players added to the list. The NHL announced that the team was hit with a $100,000 fine for violating coronavirus protocols.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Ilya Samsonov were the three other Capitals players added to the list.

Ovechkin put out a statement saying that he felt he got the virus spending time with his teammates on the road in the team hotel.

"I regret my choice to spend time together with my teammates in our hotel room and away from the locker room areas,'' Ovechkin said in a statement issued by the Capitals. `

"I will learn from this experience."

The Capitals also released a statement saying that they were "disappointed by our players' choice to interact in their hotel room and outside of team approved areas."

Being on the COVID-19 list means that Ovechkin and the others are not available for practice, but they could return for the team's next game, which is Friday at home against Buffalo.

The Capitals are coming off a shootout and overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and currently sit at 2-0-2 on the young season.

The league stated that the Capitals' punishment came from "social interactions among team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face coverings."
