After Trade From Rams, DL Michael Brockers Inks New Three-Year Deal With Lions

The Los Angeles Rams could not afford to keep longtime defensive linemen Michael Brockers, so they did what they had to do in trading him to the Detroit Lions for a 7th round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions are the winners in the Brockers drama, taking advantage to grab his services and hopefully have him as one of their starting vets on D in 2021 and beyond.

The Lions, with new coach Dan Campbell, have gotten Brockers to agree to a new multi-year contract extension with the team which will keep him in Detroit through the 2023 season.

When the Lions traded for Brockers had had two years left on his three-year, $24 million contract he signed with the Rams last offseason.

Brockers was slated to get a salary of $6.5 million in 2021 and $7.5 million in 2022, but none of that base salary was guaranteed.

The new deal for Brockers gives him now three years for $24 million, a full $11 million of the new deal is guaranteed.

"I’d say this about Brockers, he’s probably one of the few in this league that can wield the hammer of Thor," Lions coach Dan Campbell said Friday.

"So, we’re really excited about that."
