2020 Finally Ends With A Bizarre Cyndi Lauper New Year's Eve Performance

While most of the world was wishing 2020 would simply go away, the year went out with one final "memorable" moment that made Twitter go abuzz into the first day of the new year.

That performance took place on "ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2021," as Cyndi Lauper took the stage. It was one of the most bizarre outings on the show in the past few years.

Lauper, on stage with Billy Porter, sang one of her most famous songs, "True Colors." The song was for the most part off-key. Afterwards, the singer, most known for her 1980s breakout song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," made an odd transition.

“Let’s take off you scarf,” someone from the stage pronounced, but Lauper wanted her scarf on. Then it got a little more bizarre as she proclaimed, “I’m on camera. I’m on camera,” and suddenly the next song started.

Lauper's performance had a heavy EDM (electronic dance music) feel to it, which for a 67-year-old probably was a pretty big mistake.

The awful performance will be remembered for all the wrong reasons, and it was soon compared to the 2016 train wreck by Mariah Carey, which you can relive in the clip below.

As for Lauper, Twitter was none too kind to the outing, and the opinions, almost all negative sprinkled with flat out confusion, is trending as the first day of 2021 kicks off.
