Niners QB Brock Purdy Challenges Doubters To 'Turn On The Tape'

Most NFL fans aren't convinced that the big-time winner for the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy, is a long-term solution at quarterback. Purdy challenged his ‘haters’ to turn on the film and reconsider their position.

Purdy addressed the outside noise clouding his status as a starter and made his case that he's the franchise guy with Pat McAfee on Tuesday.

"All I care about is the respect with the guys in the locker room, with the coaches and staff, the organization," Purdy told McAfee. "And they see how I handle business here and how I perform in games, and what's on the film rather than just feelings and opinions and emotions.

"Turn on the film, and there’s plays being made."

WATCH:

The QB has 44 passing touchdowns against 15 interceptions — through one season and seven games — as a starter. By most estimates, that's near or at franchise levels. From a wins standpoint, it's hard to argue that Mr. Irrelevant isn't ‘the guy.’

Purdy boasts a 17-4 record as a starter in the regular season. However, the quarterback's lack of ‘pop’ in his throws and deficiencies in size and strength naturally make his case as a QB1 a tough pill to swallow.

Purdy's doubters argue that his cast of offensive talent and offensive guru Kyle Shanahan's game plans handicap the 24-year-old's cachet as QB1.

While Purdy's quick releases and adept eye for defenses bolster his case (check the tape), it's hard to imagine the Niners as an NFC contender without the help of Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.

Purdy has one Super Bowl appearance, two NFC Championship Game appearances and a Pro Bowl selection to make his case.

(Hopefully, Tom Brady stays retired …)

"As long we’re winning games, it really don’t matter," Purdy added.

Purdy's got the wins, but does Purdy have THE STUFF?

For a quarterback with seemingly more doubters than believers, Purdy is confident that he'll be around for a while.
