Wuhan, China Celebrates New Year’s Eve With Packed Streets, No Restrictions

The message sent out by the Chinese, via Getty photographers in Wuhan, is that the city where the China virus originated is back to normal — minus some people wearing masks — and that means huge crowds in the streets to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Revelers released balloons, kissed with their masks on, carried their children on their shoulders and did what people do on the big night.

China says there have been no recorded cases of community transmission since May 2020. That’s right, Wuhan is back and has been back, (allegedly!). The country is so back that nightclubs were open, and there were reportedly “little restrictions on mixing indoors.”

It has gotten to the point that Chinese locals are openly talking to foreign journalists about the situation.

“It’s fine because these measures aren’t enforced very strictly,” a resident told Yahoo News. “You can still go out.”

Meanwhile, in New York City, a crowd of what appeared to be a few dozen people in pods watched Cyndi Lauper end the year on a kooky note.  In Portland, Oregon, some residents celebrated by rioting. Europe was covered in restrictions, while police in Great Britain spent their night busting illegal parties.

  1. Yeah I don’t believe anything that comes out of China wasn’t from a communist force. Even celebrations. Basically they are on par with the United States media.

  2. Fake or not. This would irate me if I was In a shut down state. I would be so done with the shutdowns at this point and it’s time to force the hand and get back to normal.

  3. I am a USA citizen that has lived in China for the last twelve years, so I feel that there should be some credence to my comments. The Chinese Government is very forceful in their enforcement of laws and rules, and in the case of COVID 19 that may have been a good thing, but only time will tell. The rage of COVID 19 in Wuhan was absolutely horrific, but the Chinese Government shut down EVERYTHING in Wuhan for months, and that was seen by the rest of the world as draconian. In no way am I condoning the iron fist of the Chinese Government, but let’s be realistic and compare it to the way the state dictators did in the USA (New York, Massachusetts, New jersey, Michigan, California, Illinois, Florida), and now China seems to have things under control with very few confirmed cases of COVID 19 (if you can believe government stats) . Of course that could change in a heartbeat.
There are many people that blame the present pandemic situation on President Trump, but let’s all look at the facts. He was following the advice of democrat fauci, and relying on the state governors to do their jobs, so he was doomed from the start.
The history of 2020 will be written in many different ways, but I hope they will show that the virus, that destroyed the year, was mismanaged by the governors of the USA and by the entire world.

  4. 90k cases and 4600 deaths in China. Right. Whatever. Regardless of the facts, China likely has chosen to ignore Covid after the initial lockdown and treat it like the cold/flu it is, thereby enabling it to be removed from public record. One of the few sane things they have done, while they laugh at the rest of the silly, feckless, cowardly world.

    • And plan the next “oops” virus accident. They were taking notes the whole time. And now they know they can do it again, this time on purpose, and shut down the world while they push through it. The only difference will be: they will probably release it in Taiwan so they can justify completely taking it over, and they’ll have a vaccine ready for their people.
