With Texas Reopening, UFC Wants To Schedule Fights There ASAP

Texas is lifting mask mandates and other COVID-19 restriction, which makes it a natural spot for sporting events. Or more specifically, for the UFC.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced earlier this week that Texas businesses can be open to 100 percent capacity starting March 10, leading UFC head honcho Dana White to indicate he wants to get an event there as soon as possible.

"I’ll go in the next two, three weeks," White told reporters. "I’m ready to roll. We’ll be first. We’ll open this thing up, we’ll sell it out and be on our way.”

UFC 259 is set for Saturday in Las Vegas. White half-jokingly said it would be moved to Texas if it were scheduled for March 10.

“I’m ready to go,” he explained. “I’d move if we could. I told everybody when this opened up that I would be first and we would go first. And we will. If we could do it, we’d do it.”
