When Might We See Falcons WR Calvin Ridley Again?

Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley’s been away from the team -- and the NFL -- since Halloween. Now two and a half months later, Atlanta’s scared to pinpoint a timetable for when he could return.

“Really up to this point, nothing has changed,” Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot told media members earlier this week.

Few, if any, details have emerged about why Ridley abruptly walked away from the field. Both the Falcons and Ridley have kept the situation private since Ridley announced via Twitter that he needed "to step away from football at this time and focus on mental wellbeing.”

News surrounding Ridley has been eerily quiet, save for a rumor that surfaced last week that suggested Ridley is nearing a return, though not necessarily in Atlanta. At this point though, whether Ridley has requested a change of scenery or even desires to return to football is a mystery to Falcons brass.

“As an organization we’ve done the best job we could just to support Calvin and do everything we can for him,” said Fontenot.

When asked whether the team was preparing to be without Ridley again next season, Fontenot responded, “I wouldn’t assume anything. Like I said, we handle each situation individually. There are so many variables we deal with.”

Prior to his early season exit, Ridley was one of the few Falcons capable of scaring defenses. He caught 31 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll ghost the Falcons again next fall.
