Watch: Javy Baez's Crafty Baserunning Leads To Unlikely Cubs Run

Javy Baez is coming off a miserable season of getting on base, but he's a two-time All-Star for a reason, and it's because the Chicago Cubs shortstop makes winning plays.

The latest example came in the third inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, when Baez's crafty baserunning led to the game's first run. (The best part of the video may be his teammates' reaction to the play.)

Basically, Baez should have been thrown out at first on a routine grounder, but he still somehow drove in a run and ended up at second.

Some of that is on the Pirates and their general ineptitude, but Baez deserves most of credit for making the routine seem extraordinary.
