Most punters aren’t runners. The impact from their legs is normally confined to launching it 40-50 yards to the other team. Every once in awhile, however, there is a punter who brings more to the table than a strong leg.
Sometimes, that punter can glide.
That is exactly what we saw on Saturday. Illinois punter Blake Hayes pulled off a hilarious fake punt against Nebraska. With the team up 28-10 early in the third quarter, the senior took of with the fourth-and-eight snap.
We’ll let the video speak for itself from that point.

How smooth was that run? Graceful and impactful, right?
The play kept the drive alive and gave the Fighting Illini a chance to add another field goal to their lead. The Cornhuskers responded with a touchdown on the following drive to cut Illinois’ lead down to 14 points (31-17).
But either way, Hayes has got to be Player of the Game following that epic conversion.

Makes you wonder how Nebraska ever became a blueblood. What is it about them that prevents them from recruiting like they used to? Weather? That hasn’t changed from their heydays. I don’t get it. They should never get embarrassed by fucking Illinois, with their Marxist fists on the back of their helmets, let alone in year 3 of the Prodigal Son’s return.
The coaches. Tom Osborne knew how to recruit, and Nebraskans were absolutely loyal to him. Once he left, the successor coaches couldn’t recruit with the big boys.
Glide?

Looks more like a skeered rabbit dodging cars on the 4 lane . . . but props for getting past the sticks for the 1st down.
