WATCH: High School Football Player Gets Ejected, Delivers Vicious Hit on Referee

Football is an emotional game, but there is a such thing as too much emotion.

A perfect example of that occurred during a recent Texas high school football game. Edinburg High School was taking on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (or PSJA) High School when Edinburg's best defensive player, Emmanuel Duron, was ejected for a late hit unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Not a big deal, right? Well, his unsportsmanlike behavior wasn't done, apparently.

Moments after being disqualified, Duron came off the sidelines and went after the referee who had just ejected him. One user on Twitter with the name Santiago (@_7santiago) posted a clip of the violent hit.

The thread from Andrew McCulloch, a journalist from The Monitor News, includes a lot of detail about the incident. It seems that the referee was down for an extended period of time.

After originally bringing out a cart, the ref was eventually able to leave the field under his own power, but he was afterwards evaluated for a concussion. Duron was escorted out of the stadium by police.

This is completely unacceptable.

All athletes, coaches and sports fans have had frustrations with a referee at some point, but physically attacking one goes beyond frustration or the use of inappropriate language. Duron will more than likely face some sort of assault charge because of his actions.

We don't currently know much about Duron -- well, except for the fact that he was his team's top defensive player. But any chance he had of playing at the next level might have just ended with that completely unnecessary hit.

We'll update this story as we find out more.

Update: There was a video of the incident uploaded on YouTube that also includes Duron being escorted away at the last second by a police officer. You can watch that video here.
