Washington Football Team Hires Director Of Wellness Full Time

The NFL continues to try and open the lines of communication with its players, and today the league took another step forward in that regard.

The Washington Football Team announced Tuesday that they have hired the very first full-time Director of Wellness to "proactively work on mental well being."

According to TMZ Sports, Washington wants to give players and staff another outlet with experts, should they need it for any reason.

The club has brought in Dr. Barbara Roberts, a full-time clinician with a Ph.D. in psychology who previously served in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The team says that Roberts will bring in an "extensive history of experience with professional athletes and looks forward to this opportunity to enhance the NFL Total Wellness mission."

The statement from Washington also mentions her "proactive approach to handling mental health ... focusing on the development of a foundation for mental wellness and its impact on overall health and performance."

So how will she be able to reach players on an individual basis? The statement said that her program will include "daily mental wellness work and will allow players to proactively work on their mental wellbeing."
