CFB AM: This HS girl made history with fake-punt touchdown pass

Cool story here to end the week: Cynthia Brown is a 17-year-old high school football player in Portsmouth, Va.

She's the kicker for Wilson High School's varsity team, and last week she appears to have made some history.

Brown lined up for a punt, but it was a fake, and she threw a pass to receiver Kevin Whitfield, which turned into a 52-yard touchdown. With that throw, Brown is believed to be the first female ever in the state of Virginia to throw a touchdown pass in a varsity football game (watch the video above). What makes it even more awesome is Cynthia helped draw up the fake punt at halftime.

"Coach Glenn Jenkins, he made it up with us," Brown said. "He was like, 'Are you comfortable throwing the ball?' I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm OK. I'll throw it to Kevin.' And he's like, 'We can do it.' "

Yes, we have to give a lot of credit to Whitfield, who broke a bunch of tackles to put together the crazy touchdown run, and Brown credits him, too. As for Whitfield? He's not so sure.

"She made me look good," he said jokingly. "Young Vick."

Brown doesn't have any plans to pursue football after college. She has a soccer scholarship to Radford.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY

Clemson didn't Clemson at Louisville. Ugly 20-17 victory for the No. 11 Tigers but a good one nonetheless, as they sit at 3-0 after the first three weeks. Meanwhile, this year couldn't be going worse for Louisville, which is now 0-3 after being a trendy preseason pick to make noise in the ACC. The Cardinals can still do that, since they're only 0-1 in conference play, but there's no reason to have any confidence in their offense, which is surprising for a Bobby Petrino team. On Thursday, Louisville started sophomore Kyle Bolin at quarterback, the third QB to play this year, and none of them have done anything to secure the job. Bolin went 19 of 34 for 238 yards and two interceptions (no TDs) against Clemson, and Petrino heads into Week 4 with zero idea who his starting quarterback is. The good news is they have Samford next week, where they should get their first win and work some kinks out, but then comes road trips to NC State and Florida State, which I'd both put down as losses at this point. Louisville could very easily be 1-5 and having to win five of their last six games to even make a bowl this season.

Should Nick Saban retire? FS1's Tim Brando was the guest this week on The Audible with Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel and made the case for Alabama's head coach to step away from coaching in the near future and take on an ambassador role for college football that the sport has never really had and Saban would be perfect for. Brando explains why he thinks football has evolved in a way Saban isn't comfortable with. It's strong stuff from Brando, and you can listen to the clip below. I don't see Saban retiring anytime soon. He may prefer an older style of football, but he's smart enough and driven enough to change, and he obviously still has an ability to build great football teams. When he gets tired of that, he'll easily transition into what Brando says, a role involving television and public speaking.

Ole Miss is a huge problem for the Crimson Tide. One other thing from Brando's visit on the podcast: He broke down the Ole Miss-'Bama game with Bruce and Stew and explained why he thinks the Rebels are simply a better football team than the Tide right now. So there should be no surprises if we see an upset in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night.

Did Texas already blow it? The Longhorns are just beginning the process of searching for their next full-time athletic director and have plenty of time to find the right one. They've signed Mike Perrin, a lawyer and former UT football player, to a one-year deal as interim AD. With the right process, Texas will surely find a great AD, because it still has unmatched resources and is a university and town many would love to be associated with. But it's possible UT already blew its shot with the very best candidate they could possibly hire. Feldman and Mandel explain how that happened here:
