Vikings to Sign 30-year-old Rookie

Former LSU punter Zach Von Rosenberg's path to the NFL is not like many of his teammates.

The 30-year-old NFL rookie will join the Minnesota Vikings during the team's May 14-16 rookie minicamp. LSU confirmed Von Rosenberg, the NFL rookie and former minor league pitcher, was staying in purple and gold on Monday.

The StarTribune reports Von Rosenberg was initially a 2009 sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but after six seasons in the minor leagues, he returned to his home state and was brought on LSU football's roster as a quarterback.

"After bouncing around between quarterback and tight end, Von Rosenberg, also a former high school punter, got a shot to be LSU's lead leg," the article reads. "He latched onto the role, averaging 44 yards across 193 punts in four seasons."

He will compete with returning punter Britton Colquitt.
