Vikings DE Everson Griffen Is Receiving Help After Outpour of Concern Over Current State of Health

An encouraging update has emerged from a situation involving Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen and distressing videos he posted of himself on his personal Instagram early Wednesday morning.

Griffen was visibly paranoid inside his home in the footage and flaunted a loaded weapon to his followers — claiming people inside his home were out to kill him.

Concern spread online as he posted in real-time, and authorities were at Griffen's residence hours later. According to the ESPN report, Griffen did fire off the weapon once inside the house but there was no reported harm.

The team released a statement detailing that Griffen met with authorities outside his home around 3 a.m. Wednesday, and the scene ended without incident.

"We are thankful to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Carver County Sheriff's Office, the Minnetrista Police Department and the Orono Police Department for their quick response and dedication to ensuring the situation ended peacefully," announced the statement. "Our focus remains on Everson's health and safety and providing the proper resources for him and his family."

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman responded by ensuring that the team would supply appropriate attention to help Griffen convalesce in as much time needed.

"We got him the necessary help that he needs and in the care of medical professionals," Spielman said.

Named in the video was Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, referenced by Griffen as the person who helped him get ahold of the registered weapon. Cook responded to Griffen's video in grief over a respected veteran player on the team.

"Since I got here, he was one of the older guys that took me under his wings and taught me, 'This is what you don't do, this is how you do it, this is how you take care of your body.'" He added, "That's my brother. I just want him to be OK, in his mind, make sure his family is OK. I just want what's best for Everson overall."

Griffen played for the Vikings from 2010-2019 and had brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions. He re-joined the Vikings ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Griffen missed Week 2's 34-33 loss against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a concussion as part of a road accident caused by a crossing animal.
