DE Everson Griffen To Try Out For Vikings

Free agent and former Minnesota Vikings pass rusher Everson Griffen is slated for a busy Wednesday in the Twin Cities, as the former Viking is going to be in town for a tryout according to Sports Illustrated.

Griffen has been without a team since the start of the offseason, but that could change should he have a good workout and the money lines up.

The 34-year-old opted out of his deal back in February of 2020, and there's been plenty of chatter about him eventually coming back to the Vikings, where he played for ten seasons. The Vikings selected him in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

It's a solid pickup for Minnesota if they follow through, and Griffen is in good enough shape to have an impact on the team's defensive roster.

Last season, Griffen didn't just sit around doing nothing. He appeared in 14 games, playing for the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

In those affairs, he put up 33 pressures, 19 quarterback hurries, and 6.0 sacks.

At the defensive end spot in 2020, Minnesota went with D.J Wonnum and Stephen Weatherly, two players who are okay but don't match up with Griffen's experience.

It's likely that Griffen will be back on a roster for the Vikings by the end of the day, but we shall see if he can do enough to impress the coaching staff and get his career going in the Twin Cities again for the 2021 season.
