USFL Names Two More Coaches, Set For April 16 Kickoff

The United States Football League (USFL) is set to kickoff on April 16 on FOX and now has 6-of-8 head coaches finalized.

The USFL announced two more coaches on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" Thursday, after announcing the first four on Jan. 6.

As Cowherd reported, the names added to the list are Skip Holtz (Birmingham Stallions) and Kirby Wilson (Pittsburgh Maulers).

They join the following list of head coaches: Kevin Sumlin (Houston Gamblers), Mike Riley (New Jersey Generals), Todd Haley (Tampa Bay Bandits) and Bart Andrus (Philadelphia Stars).

The league is currently scheduled to hold a player selection meeting Feb. 21-22. Offseason camps will begin March 21 and all games will be played at a single venue for the 2021 season. The venue itself has yet to be announced.

All eight teams will be divided into two divisions, North and South, and will play a 10-game season.

Haley and Riley are the only coaches to have been a head coach in the NFL. Meanwhile, Sumlin and Holtz have been head coaches at the Division I level in college football.

At the time of the first announcement of coaches, Brian Woods, USFL president of football operations, raved about the quality of coaches they've attracted.

“Today is a monumental day for the new USFL as we hit the 100 days to kickoff mark," Woods said. "To attract Mike Riley and Todd Haley, two former NFL head coaches, Bart Andrus, a former head coach in NFL Europe and CFL, plus an experienced college head coach in Kevin Sumlin, to the USFL, speaks to the quality of the league we’re building.

“They all share our belief in high-quality spring football, and we’re honored to have them lead their respective teams this year. We can’t wait to hit the field!”
