Urban Meyer Might Not Be The Only College Coach To Hear NFL Rumors

Sunday, a report emerged that multiple NFL teams have reached out to Urban Meyer to gauge his interest in moving to the NFL. Two teams even want an interview.

NFL coaching opportunities already exist with the Lions, Falcons, and Texans — though the Jags, Jets, and Chargers would be fools not to create three more.

However, Yahoo! reports that Meyer might not be the only former or current college coach to make the jump to the NFL.

“I think the reason we’ll see more college guys go to the NFL is the pool of pro coaches ready to be head coaches is so much smaller,” said an industry source tells Yahoo!. “Guys like Matt Campbell, Dan Mullen and Pat Fitzgerald, those kinds of guys will be in the mix now.”

Of the expected openings, the Chargers provide the best opportunity. While Trevor Lawrence, whom the Jags clinched Sunday, projects stardom on the next level — Justin Herbert is already there. The Jags hope Lawrence can be 90% of what Herbert is.

Similarly, Houston has its guy in Deshaun Watson. It's too bad Bill O'Brien punted away all the draft capital.

Jacksonville would then follow as the third-best opening.

The QB situations in Detroit, Atlanta, and New York are unclear. Mel Kiper and others believe the Lions could move on from Matt Stafford to spark a full-rebuild.

Atlanta could do the same with Matt Ryan, 35, who is three years older than Stafford.

As for the Jets, the Mock Drafts say they'll draft Justin Fields. With the current roster in New York, Fields may not be any better than Sam Darnold. Stay away from this job.
