‘Unbelievable’: Joel Embiid Scores 50 In Just 27 Minutes

Sixers superstar Joel Embiid must’ve been hungry when his team faced the Magic on Wednesday night because he wasted little time gobbling up a fifty burger, and all Orlando could do was basically sit there and watch. Philadelphia’s center needed just 27 minutes to score 50 points in an all-around dominant effort.

"My teammates just found me. And I did the rest," said Embiid, 27, after Philly’s 123-110 win.

Embiid’s 50 points tied a career-high, even though he essentially scored them in just three quarters since he spent only 58 seconds on the floor in the fourth quarter. He added 12 rebounds and three blocks for a Philadelphia team that’s won nine of their last eleven games.

Orlando big man Mo Bamba was amongst the many defenders who tried and failed when tasked with keeping the hungry Embiid from eating.

Following the win, Embiid stated the obvious via Twitter: “(Mo Bamba) couldn’t guard me tonight. #HeCookedMeToo #50 #Pushin.”

Per ESPN Stats & Info, Embiid’s 50 point, 12 rebound game in just 27:03 of game action was the fewest minutes played in a 50-point, 10-rebound game in the NBA’s shot clock era (1954-55).

"It's all about playing the right way. The ball is always going to find me," said Embiid, a four-time All-Star. "These guys have a hell of a lot of trust in me, and they're always looking for me.”

"And it doesn't matter when. In any time of the game, the ball is going to find me."

Embiid’s performance made an instant impact on Sixers coach Doc Rivers. "He was unbelievable from the start," Rivers said.

Philadelphia’s next game is Friday night at home against the Clippers, who'd better hope Embiid isn’t hungry for dessert.
