Tampa Rays Prospect Struck With Ball Shows Off Railroad Track Brain Surgery Scars

On June 3, Tampa Bays prospect Tyler Zombro went down in a frightening scene after he suffered a head injury from a line drive. The hit sent the pitcher to the hospital for overnight surgery.

In a bit of positive news, Zombro went to Twitter to update his followers and supporters on his recovery. He also included a note of gratitude for the hospital medical team and staff who assisted him. Zombro was released from Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina on June 9.

“Unbelievably grateful to be in the situation I’m currently in with the incredible help from @DukeHospital & staff. To all of you that have showered my family and I with positive thoughts, I have no doubt that all of the prayer support kept God with me throughout that night, as I’m in a very fortunate position all things considered. The outpouring support and prayer has meant the world to Moriah and I, and I certainly believe you guys have well wished me to an enhanced recovery.”

The announcement also read, “To @raysbaseball and @durhambulls. I cannot thank you guys enough for treating me the way you have, as this is what makes our organization so special. In optimistic news: I’ve never been the fastest on the field so I may have gotten a boost after this surgery.”

In a thread of Twitter updates, Zombro shared some images on the post-surgery stitching, which will make for an incredible scar and even better story.

The resilient Zombro is now focused on returning to the field and earning his chance to play for the Tampa Bay Rays, and many anticipate that the George Mason alum will soon do just that.
