Two Top Recruits Back Out Of Tennessee Commitments After Jeremy Pruitt News

Offensive tackle Colby Smith became the second recruit to withdraw his commitment to the Tennessee football program since Monday's news that coach Jeremy Pruitt and the program are parting ways.

Kevin Steele will serve as acting head coach for the time being, it was announced.

Smith announced that "there is just too much uncertainty" surrounding the Volunteers. He made it clear, though, that he is not ruling out still playing at Tennessee. "I just need to take a step back," he said.

Smith is a three-star recruit out of Rockingham County (N.C.) High School.

Four-star receiver Jordan Mosley from McGill Toolen (Ala.) High School was the first to withdraw his commitment. Mosley was the highest-rated prospect committed in Tennessee’s 2021 recruiting class.

Per OutKick's Ryan Glasspiegel: "Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News-Sentinel reports that Pruitt was fired 'for cause' due to alleged NCAA violations, meaning Tennessee would save millions of dollars in a buyout. Further, Toppmeyer reports that Phil Fulmer is retiring and the new AD will choose the next football coach."
