It seems like everyone has an opinion about the recent mega quarterback deal involving the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.
Reports say that Goff is happy to be out of Los Angeles and under the thumb of head coach Sean McVay, while Stafford gets new life on a team that had the No. 1 defense in the NFL last season.
Two men who have let their opinions on the trade known are Fox TV analyst Troy Aikman and NFL media insider Michael Silver of NFL Network.
According to PFT, Silver believes that McVay took some unnecessary shots at Goff during production meetings that occasionally included Aikman. Aikman then shared with his audience the struggles between McVay and Goff.
Silver says that Aikman’s decision to air the Rams’ dirty laundry amounts to “trashing” Goff.
“Routinely trashed this season on FOX telecasts, specifically those with Troy Aikman as the lead analyst, Goff could reasonably assume that McVay’s words about his quarterback’s play in network production meetings were far from glowing,” Silver wrote.
Aikman apparently wasn’t too happy about Silver taking a shot at him and didn’t hold back in his response. “Unlike Michael Silver, I strive to be fair and balanced and do not have an agenda when doing my job,” he told Jimmy Traina of SI.com.
In a way, the former Dallas Cowboys QB has a point. Goff did have his share of struggles in 2020, and maybe a change of scenery in Detroit will do the former first-round pick some good.
“The record will show that I have been a strong supporter of Jared Goff’s over the years. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff, he did not perform at his best in the games that I broadcasted this season, and I’m confident Jared would be the first to agree.”
Maybe the real person to blame here is McVay, who should have been more careful when throwing his starting quarterback under the bus.
