Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson Will Start Week 1, But What About The Other First-Round Rookies?

We saw five different quarterbacks taken in the first 15 picks of the 2021 NFL Draft. That sort of top-heavy scenario with QB play doesn't happen often, but each and every one of those signal callers has potential.

But of those quarterbacks, which ones will start the opening week of the season? And if they don't start Week 1, then when? Well, Eric Edholm with Yahoo Sports recently wrote an article about that very topic, and his predictions were interesting to say the least.

Now, context is important, so I would highly suggest taking some time to go read over his reasoning behind each decision.

The first two quarterbacks are no-brainers. Yes, I understand that Gardner Minshew would be a fine option to start for Jacksonville against the Houston Texans to open the season -- if he's still on the roster -- but it isn't happening. Lawrence is the guy.

On the other hand, Wilson barely has any competition. The only other quarterbacks currently on the Jets roster are James Morgan and Mike White, so that decision makes plenty of sense.

The last two predictions probably won't be met with much resistance either. Cam Newton is the presumed starter in New England -- at least to start the season -- and Chicago at least has to start Andy Dalton for a few games after that horrific "QB1" tweet back in March, right?

The most interesting prediction in the article is that Trey Lance will start for San Francisco in Week 1 too. In some ways, everyone has predicted that Jimmy Garoppolo would get shipped out at some point. Plus, the 49ers do have Josh Rosen, Nate Sudfeld and Josh Johnson on the roster, so depth shouldn't be a concern.

Maybe Edholm is onto something here.
