Trevor Bauer has really blossomed into someone who is interesting and entertaining to observe, and he trolled MLB into a corner this week.
On Wednesday, Bauer announced that he planned to wear these ‘Free Joe Kelly’ cleats in support of the Dodgers pitcher who was suspended for throwing at Houston Astros players:
And the moment you've all been waiting for…..here's a look at my cleats for tonight's start. FREE JOE KELLY! If you want to be eligible for a chance to win these, see next tweet for details. pic.twitter.com/WR0LrNpgCC

Bauer didn’t ultimately wear the cleats, and later explained that MLB blocked him from doing so even though they had previously had rules with a wide enough latitude such that he believed this shouldn’t have violated them:
cleats, so long as it wasn’t political or offensive. Apparently, Rob is not a fan of players following his rules, as “Free Joe Kelly” is not political and is very clearly said in jest. Just leaves me over here wondering how following the rules = ejection/suspension/fine and

This is still a net win for Bauer because he’s probably going to wind up getting extra attention from the league’s decision to bar him from wearing the cleats than he would’ve gotten if he had followed through with sporting them on the mound.
And yet if he’d just added “Black Lives Matter” on it on the other side the hypocrites running the league would have let him wear them.
Astros Fan here. Let him wear the cleats. I think they are awesome.
Manfred is a piece of shit. All the goodwill he would get for not being a coronabro is outweighed by his continued blind defense of the Trashtros. Of cheaters.
