Tommy Tuberville has defeated Jeff Sessions in the Republican primary for the Alabama senate seat, the AP and CNN project. Tuberville, the former head football coach at Auburn, is, at this point, even winning Tuscaloosa:
Go tell people in Tuscaloosa in 2008 “You’re going to vote for Tommy Tuberville because Donald Trump told you to”: pic.twitter.com/XFb10Ebgci

With this victory now in the rear view, Tuberville takes on Democrat incumbent Doug Jones in the upcoming November election. Tuberville was endorsed by President Donald Trump, who is currently taking a victory lap:
Wow, just called! @TTuberville – Tommy Tuberville WON big against Jeff Sessions. Will be a GREAT Senator for the incredible people of Alabama. @DougJones is a terrible Senator who is just a Super Liberal puppet for Schumer & Pelosi. Represents Alabama poorly. On to November 3rd.

Imagine being told at any point in the time that Tuberville was coaching Auburn from 1999-2008 that he’d win a senate primary not just in the state but also probably in Tuscaloosa. What a wild time to be alive.
