Titans Moving Fast To Acclimate Adrian Peterson To Offense

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is very clear on what he wants to see from newly signed running back Adrian Peterson.

“Go as hard as you can, take care of the football, try to learn the details of the play, play with great effort, and don’t do dumb stuff to hurt the team,” Vrabel said on Wednesday.

Peterson, 36, signed with Tennessee on Monday after Derrick Henry was ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury. Peterson is fifth on the all-time rushing list with 14,280 career yards on the ground. His most recent 1,000-yard season came with Washington in 2018.

Peterson spent last season with the Lions and ran for 604 yards on 156 carries and seven touchdowns. Peterson will bring a veteran presence with him to help Jeremy McNichols, the only running back on Tennessee’s active roster with carries this season.

“He’s always run extremely hard, I think he’s been decisive,” Vrabel said. “He’s strong with the football. We’ll see where he’s at this week and work towards the end of the week and see who’s going to end up helping us.”

The next step for Peterson will be getting back into shape. That applies to D’Onta Foreman as well, who was signed on Tuesday.

“You hope that they’ve been doing some stuff and then the workout tries to define what kind of shape they’re in a little bit,” Vrabel said. “We’ll have to work them back into shape and put some pads on them and try to give them some contact and see if they can adjust to take care of the football.”
